Obituary of Mary T. Gartner

LITTLE FALLS - Long time Little Falls resident, Mary T. Gartner, passed away peacefully, at Alpine Nursing Center, on January 14, 2023, in the presence of her two sons. She was born on December 16, 1923, the daughter of the late Joseph Kaucher and Mary (Kramer) Kaucher Kovac. She graduated from St. Mary’s Academy, in 1941 and St. Luke’s School of Nursing, in 1944. Until the birth of her sons, she worked as an Obstetrical Nurse at Little Falls Hospital. She married Joseph R. Gartner, of Little Falls, at St. Mary’s Church, on October 25, 1947. They were married for 60 years before he predeceased her. She is survived by two sons, who followed her into the healthcare profession, Joseph F. Gartner, a Pharmacist and his wife, Barbara Gartner, of San Diego,CA and John Gartner, an Optometrist and his wife, Lisa Galstian; and her two beloved granddaughters, Lindsey and Geena, who reside in nearby La Jolla, CA. She is also survived by her sister, Josie (Kovak) Smith; her sister-in-law, Audrey Kaucher; and her cousins, Margaret Lonis and Elsie (Kramer) Synenki. She was predeceased by her brother, Joseph Kaucher; and sister, Dorothy (Kavak ) George. She was known as “Aunt Mimi” by her nephews and nieces, Mark Kaucher, Michael Goerge, Robert George, Alan Smith, Pam Smith, Laura (Smith) McCann, Shirley (Gartner) Darbyshire, Joan (Gartner Matusiak and Carol (Gartner) Ehilinger. She was also predeceased by her niece and nephews, Robert Kaucher, Thomas Johnston, Dolores (Johnston)Carney, Robert Gartner and Thomas George. She will be buried at St. Mary’s Cemetery and the family will make future arrangements for a Funeral Mass and memorial, in the spring. The family wishes to thank Claxton Manor (Folts) Senior Living and the Alpine Rehab and Nursing Center for the excellent care she received in her final years. She was a lifelong member of St. Mary’s Holy Family Parish in Little Falls and was active in the Rosary Society for many years. Donations in her memory may be given to the Holy Family Parish, 763 E. Main St., Little Falls, NY 13365. Mary’s funeral arrangements have been entrusted to the Enea Family Funeral Home, 24 West Monroe St., Little Falls, NY (315-823-2424).
