Obituary of Rev. Daniel A. Lanza

LITTLE FALLS – Rev. Daniel A. Lanza, age 90, a native son of Little Falls and a beloved Maryknoll Missionary Priest, passed away peacefully on Thursday morning, February 4, 2021 at the Alpine Rehabilitation and Nursing Center in Little Falls. His family is appreciative of the excellent care he received from the nursing staff and caregivers there over the last three years. Born on April 3, 1930 in Little Falls, Father Lanza was the son of the late Antonio and Cecilia (Ruggieri) Lanza. He was raised and educated in Little Falls Schools and upon his graduation from high school, joined the Maryknoll Fathers & Brothers. He was ordained as a Priest through the Catholic Church in 1959 and spent the majority of his calling as a Pastor in Guatemala. Through his Missionary Vocation of living and preaching the Good News, Father Lanza gave so much of himself so that others may have love and life. His decades of service were spent ministering to others through the teachings of the Gospel, the Church and Maryknoll. In June of 2019 he was honored as a 60th year Jubilarian. Upon his retirement from Maryknoll, Father Lanza returned to his beloved home of Little Falls where for many years, continued to minister and assist at various Catholic Churches throughout the Mohawk Valley. One of his favorite pastimes was reminiscing about the south side of the City of Little Falls. He was also a big fan of the University of Notre Dame and loved watching college football. He is survived by his nephews, Lee and Rose DeAngelis, Anthony and Lisa DeAngelis, Anthony and Kimberly Lanza and Thomas and Sharon Lanza; as well as several great-nieces and great-nephews. Aside from his parents, he was predeceased by his sisters, Nicholena Lanza, Christina Lanza, Mary Lanza and Anne DeAngelis; and his brother, Nick Lanza. In keeping with Father’s wishes, a private Memorial Mass will be held at a later date. His remains will be interred with his parents in St. Mary’s Cemetery, East Herkimer. Arrangements have been entrusted to the Enea Family Funeral Home, 24 West Monroe Street, Little Falls, NY (315) 823-2424, Harry and Kevin Enea and Martin L. Ciaccia, Funeral Directors.
