Ralph J. Atkinson

ILION – Mr. Ralph J. Atkinson, age 74, of McGowan Road, (Town of Frankfort), passed away surrounded by his devoted family, at his home, on June 5, 2024.

He was born in Rome, New York, on October 1, 1949, a son of the late Jesse and Mary (Recchio) Atkinson. He was a graduate of Rome Free Academy, ‘Class of 1967.’ He was proud to then have honorably served our country, Vietnam Era, United States Air Force, 9/22/1967 until 6/9/1971. He was a member of several bowling leagues as well as the VFW and the Elk’s. Remembering what Ralph absolutely Loved, Music (only Rock and Roll), dancing, football (Giants) and baseball (the Yankees). He was a dedicated dad, watching his kids and grandkids in everything. He retired from Remington Arms and the United States Postal Service (Rural Route Carrier, Cooperstown). Ralph had two Degrees, one in electronics and the other in accounting.

Ralph is survived by those he dearly held close to his heart: his wife, Lynda S. (Blaise-Gray), whom he married, on September 4, 1983, in Ilion; his two sons and a daughter-in-law, Richard Gray (Mandy) and Erik Atkinson; his grandchildren, Cameron, Lily and Roger; his three sisters, Jessica Snyder (Don), Stella McKillip and Roberta Brockway (Scott); his in-laws, JoAnn and Gary; and several nieces, nephews, cousins, aunts and uncles.

He was predeceased by his parents, Jesse and Mary; a niece, Mary; a nephew, Chris; mother-in-law and father-in-law, Dick and Eleanor Blaise; and brother-in-law, Donald McKillip.

Funeral Services will be held on Saturday, June 8, 2024, at the Enea & Ciaccia Family Funeral Home, 4309 Acme Road, in Ilion, New York (old Main Street between Ilion and Frankfort). Ralph’s family will honor him with a casketed viewing, on Saturday, June 8, 2024, from 2:00 p.m. until 4:00 p.m., followed by a Catholic Prayer Service, in the funeral home chapel. Relatives and friends are invited to attend the calling hours and Funeral Service to follow. The family will plan for interment in a private manner.

The family is very thankful for the relatives and friends who have been there during this difficult time, including Alexis, the Veteran Administration and Hospice & Palliative Care.
