Obituary of Bridget Murdock
SCHUYLER – Mrs. Bridget (Skowron) Murdock, age 99, passed away peacefully, early Sunday morning, January 21, 2018, at the St. Elizabeth Medical Center in Utica.
Born on August 20, 1918, Bridget was the daughter of the late Stanley and Mary (Rogowski) Skowron. She was raised and educated locally, attending Frankfort-Schuyler schools.
On October 17, 1936, she was wed to Mr. Harold Murdock in the East Schuyler Church. Together, they were a hardworking couple, devoted to one another and to raising their family. They shared in a loving union of over 56 years, until Mr. Murdock’s passing on April 5, 1993.
For many years, Bridget was a dedicated homemaker; not only did she keep up her home and tend to her children, but she also helped her husband with his duties on the family farm. Her kitchen was a place filled with love, laughter and delicious food. Nothing made her happier than cooking and baking for her extended family and friends, and she was renowned for her blueberry muffins and cheesecakes. Known to many in the Schuyler community as “Grandma Bridget”, she was very giving and outgoing, and she was constantly doing for others.
In her free time, she enjoyed playing cards, was an avid bingo player, and liked taking day trips; especially to go out to lunch. She was a longtime parishioner of the East Schuyler United Methodist Church, which she always held near and dear to her heart.
Bridget is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Judy and David Gillette of Schuyler; her sons and daughters-in-law, Stanley and Beverly Murdock of Schuyler, Ronald Murdock and Linda of Utica, and William “Bill” and Emily Murdock of Utica; many grandchildren, great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren; her sister, Jane Gadziala of Melbourne Beach, Florida; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
Besides her husband and parents, Bridget was predeceased by her daughter and son-in-law, Emilie and Vincent “Babe” Nicolette; her great-grandson, Cody Murdock; her daughter-in-law, Christine Murdock; her brother, Joseph Skowron; her sister, Sadie Williams; and her brother-in-law, Rudy Gadziala.
A very special thanks is owed to Bridget’s caregivers at the Mohawk Valley Healthcare Center for helping to extend her life and being her angels throughout her last years.
